Many cultures have an ancient flood account and contain pieces of truth. But in reality, only one thing actually happened. It’s popular to believe that truth is subjective, but it’s not. There is a singular reality which is important to understand because it explains the current context of the world. Without understanding reality you continue to be confused and misled.
Many people are familiar – semi-familiar with the biblical flood account, but not many understand why it happened. Some might have heard that the world was “bad” at the time and that’s why God brought a flood to destroy it. But what made it bad? Sexual immorality? Gluttony? Violence? Worship of false deities? Those are not really unique since they became abundant once again following the flood and still are in today’s society and there has since, not to our knowledge, been another earth wide cataclysm. This might lead you to think there was something more going on at the time and you’d be right in wondering this.
Before we get in to this series, I need to preface it by saying that these articles are not for anyone set in their current mindset. If you are stuck in your ways and beliefs, you may not like them. It’s not for anyone who wants to pick and choose beliefs based on what they like or what is convenient for them. It is not for anyone who chooses beliefs based on what will make them feel better. If you have an open mind you may find these posts highly interesting and walk away with many more questions. When I first learned of these things I know I did. Another extremely important thing to note is that I cannot possibly address everything in this article which is why I am going to write more and also reference books that talk more on these matters. You will have many questions going through this and it is to be expected. If you look for it there is quite a bit of information on this topic out there. The rabbit hole goes deep with this one and I believe it to be a missing piece of the origin story most people are looking for when they want to explain evil on the earth. Once you understand this, it all makes sense. For me this was the beginning of waking up and I hope it can be for some others too.
In Part 1 we are going to set the scene of how these giants came to be on earth and begin to question their intentions.
Not always, but usually the Bible explains itself. In this case, it does. Genesis 6:1, 2 says “Now when men started to grow in number on the surface of the ground and daughters were born to them, the sons of the true God began to notice that the daughters of men were beautiful. So they began taking as wives all whom they chose.”
Genesis is the first book of the Bible and due to its name and content we know it’s talking about the beginning of time or at least time in our realm. It’s possible that time is only a concept within the physical realm. Breaking down Genesis 6:1, 2 we can see that the human race started to become populous and the “sons of the true God” began to notice they were beautiful and took as many as they pleased as wives. The term “sons of the true God” is a Hebrew idiom that refers to angelic sons of God, not human. (Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7) So what this verse is saying is that in those day there were spirits that left their realm to procreate with female humans. What does “the true God” say about this? In verse 3 we read “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” This implies a strong disconnect between God’s Spirit and human flesh. The Bible often refers to the spirit and flesh having conflict. (Gal 5:17; Matt 26:41; Mark 14:38).
As you continue in Genesis 6:4 you’ll read “The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.” So who were these sons of God? The word/title “Nephilim” comes from the Hebrew word Napal נפל (napal), to fall, which seems to be connected to the verb פלל (palal), which means to distinguish, or פלה (pala), to be extraordinary. Seeing the “-im” makes the word plural. So the Nephilim (the fallen ones/the extraordinary ones) were as Genesis 6:4 explains, the offspring of the fallen sons of God with the women of whom they took as wives and pro-created with. The Bible, and many other ancient texts describes them as mighty, renown, men of fame, and as you will later learn, giants. So how did this affect “the true God?”
We learn in Genesis 1 that God created all things according to their kind, for a specific purpose, and for no other. We also learn in that chapter that he created man and women and in verse 28 of chapter 1 he tells them one of their purposes: to “become many, fill the earth.” He wanted humans to fill the earth. We also learn that he made his creation with free will. Without free will one becomes a robot and worship is no longer worship. This meaning even though he created spirit creatures to reside in heaven, they still have the ability to rebel and do as they please. But this does not mean actions are without consequence. For example, you may be allowed to buy a knife at the store and you while you can do whatever you want with it, that doesn’t mean there won’t be negative consequences if you use it in a detrimental way. In Genesis 6:5-7 it explains how God felt, “The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the Lord said, ‘I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.’” Now we see God’s plan and why he developed this plan. It was not simply sin happening on the earth, it was a distortion of the beautiful human race that he had created. It was no longer his purpose or creation. There were spirit-human hybrids walking around on earth. These creatures were adored, famous, looked up to, people wanted to be like them, learn from them (coming from the spirit realm they had immense knowledge), and even worship them. These sons of the true God and their hybrids had no intention of turning mankind to their creator for help. Their goal was to obtain their worship and pull them away from the true God.
Before we dive into the Biblical texts, let’s look at what Enoch had to say, a man who “walked with God” during the time these giants were on earth.
The Book of Enoch
The Book of Enoch also says much to reinforce what is written in the Bible. Enoch 7 says, “Accordingly, my children, flee from sexual promiscuity, and order your wives and your daughters not to adorn their heads and their appearances so as to deceive men’s sound minds. For every woman who schemes in these ways is destined for eternal punishment. For it was thus that they charmed the Watchers, who were before the Flood. As they continued looking at the women, they were filled with desire for them and perpetrated the act in their minds. Then they were transformed into human males, and while the women were cohabiting with their husbands they appeared to them. Since the women’s minds were filled with lust for these apparitions, they gave birth to giants. For the Watchers were disclosed to them as being as high as the heavens.” I’m not sure how it could be more clear how these “giants” as Enoch described them came to be and the twisted, unholy, and unnatural desire of their ancestors.
We will talk more about the book of Enoch later, but to give context, the book of Enoch was written by Enoch himself. He lived in the time before the flood when giants walked the earth. Genesis 5:21-24 says about him, “When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years. Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.” The Bible is not clear on what happened at the end of Enoch’s term on earth. It simply says that God took him. Some speculate that he was the only good one on earth at the time trying to do God’s will and God wanted to protect him. There are very few accounts in the Bible in which someone is said to have “walked with God” and was then taken by God. Noah, who he and his family lived through the Flood, was also said to have walked with God. So it is clear that those who walk with God receive His protection in one form or another.
You may be wondering at this point: How can we know they were actually giants? Where does this correlation between spirit-human and giant come to the surface?
It is my goal to show you not just what the Bible says, but also extra-biblical texts, proof from archeology, historical documents, and legends.
Now we will dive in to Biblical references to these giants.
Goliath the Philistine
If you are going to be familiar with any of the references I give, it’s probably this one. Goliath was one of the Philistines. He is first mentioned in the Bible at 1 Samuel 17:4-7. This is what it says about him: “And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze. And he had bronze armor on his legs, and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders. The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And his shield-bearer went before him.” Here we learn about him that his height was “six cubits and a span” (nearly 10 ft). His copper coat of mail weighed 5,000 shekels (over 120 lb), and the blade on his spear weighed 600 shekels (about 15lb). It sounds like he was ginormous, but you’ll notice that he is not called a giant. However, it is generally assumed that Nephilim were giants due to the description of giants in the land that the Nephilim inhabited in Numbers 13.
Who Were the Nephilim?
The Septuagint translates both the Hebrew (נְּפִלִ֞ים )“Nephilim” and ( גִּבֹּרִ֛ים ) gibborim” in Gen 6:4 (asγίγαντες) “gigates.” An important note is also that the Aramaic word for giant is “nephiyla.” Goliath was also one of the Raphiam. The Rephaim were part of the Anakim, which in Hebrew means “giant.” If you read to the end of Numbers 13 you will see that the Nephilim come from the sons of Anak, also known as the “Anakim.” The lands of the Rephaim included Mt. Hermon, Bashan, and the northern half of Gilead (Deut 3:13, Joshua 12:4-5; 13:11-12). This is especially noteworthy because it is said within the book of Enoch that the “sons of the true God” descended upon Mt. Hermon (1 Enoch 6:6) and Bashan is just at the base of it. There are also other references within the Bible to indicate this was an origin location for the dark side of the unseen realm.
A Battle for Territories and Worship
The Philistines were in a battle for the land that God has promised his people – full real humans. If you have read the Hebrew/Aramaic scriptures you will see that it is a constant battle for territories. Understandably, many people are turned off by who they see the god of the Hebrew Scriptures, Yahweh, to be due to all of the seemingly innocent bloodshed. However, they are missing the important piece: The ones they were fighting against were either (1) not full human, knowingly working in direct opposition to the true God or (2) worshipping and/or living in harmony with these fallen sons of God. These Nephalim, Anakim, and Rephaim, and others (like Zuzim and Emim) were trans-humans. This was not simply a fight between humans battling for territory. This was spiritual warfare as these hybrids were battling God and humans for territory to rule over on earth. These fallen Watchers (as the book of Enoch refers to them) do not deserve worship or rulership and never did. Any good or useful knowledge they imparted to humans, which we will discuss later in later articles, came from the one who created them in their pure form. They are not the origin of this knowledge. My belief is that they are a fake and came to the earth with the goal of distorting humanity and creating genetic alternations in people so that they were no longer in the image of God, a real human (Gen 1:26). Some make the claim that these “sons of the true God” had good intentions but I believe this to be false and will leave that for another time. We will get more in to the proof that these giants existed in Part 2 when we discuss things like the discovery of giant bones taken by the Smithsonian and skulls which no one has been able to match the DNA of.
Og of Bashan and the Rephaim
Og of Bashan was one of the last Rephaim. Again, he is not directly called a giant, but we can conclude these things based on the following information. Deuteronomy 3:11 says, “For King Og of Bashan was the last remaining one of the Rephaim. His bier was made of iron, and it is still in the Rabat of the Ammonites. It is nine cubits long and four cubits wide, by the standard cubit.” The standard was about 18 inches so this means his bed was about 13 and a half feet long. On top of this, he is identified as one of the Rephaim which we know were part of the Anakim which means “giant.” But in addition to this, the Rephaim were probably descendants of a giant named Rapha. Rapha is mentioned at 2 Sam 21:16, 18, 20, 22 and 1 Chron 20:6, 8. Deuteronomy 2 also says that the Rephaim were “as tall as the Anakim.” Deuteronomy 2:10-11 says that the Emim were also as tall as the Anakim and then later it says that Anakim and the Emim are also counted as Rephaim. They are all linked together.

A Giant with 6 Fingers and 6 Toes
The Bible mentions another giant, also from Gath and a descendent of Rapha, with 6 fingers and 6 toes. He is mentioned at 2 Sam 20: 20,21, “In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, killed him” and also at 1 Chronicles 20:6-7 “In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, killed him.”
As Tall as Cedar Trees, as Small as Grasshoppers, and Giant Grapes
In the book of Amos, Yahweh says, “It was I who annihilated the Amorite before them, who was as tall as the cedars and as strong as the oaks.” While it’s possible they were not as tall or strong as the Nephilim, Anakim, Rephamin, etc, these is a strong correlation between the Anakim and the Amorites. In Deuteronomy 1 and Numbers 13 (a retelling of the same event) the Israelites sent out spies into the land of the Amorites in which they report back that the Anakim were there. It’s possible the Amorites and Anakim coexisted in Canaan. When the Israelite spies returned they reported, “They are a people greater and taller than we are, and their cities are great and fortified to the heavens, and we saw the sons of the Anakim there.” In Numbers 13:33 they say, “And there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who are from the Nephilim, and in comparison we seemed like grasshoppers, both to us and to them.” When the spies returned they also brought fruit back with them, specifically a single cluster of grapes, some pomegranates, and figs (Numbers 13: 23, 24). What is noteworthy about this is that they carried the single cluster of grapes on a pole between two of them. When have you ever heard of someone carrying grapes this way? The weight split between two grown men? Could genetic alteration also have been done to the grapes? Imagine the size of the people if this was the size of their grapes. If you read the entirety of these texts you can see that the Israelites are terrified and the leaders are trying to convince them that Yahweh will fight for them in their behalf. The almighty God did not choose his people because they were strong. He had a people small and weak which proved he was with them when they fought against others much more powerful than them. It was David himself, a young shepherd boy, who took down Goliah and Og.
These texts I have shared are just a small amount of the ones that can be found within the Old Testament. If you have not read the Old Testament with this lens before, I encourage you to do so again. There is much more to be found. In the following part, Part 2, I will be talking about archeology, legends, and stolen historical documentation. It’s highly plausible that history is in a need of a rewrite.
